How did the Three Musketeers meet and become friends?

Dumas tells us how D'Artangan meets Porthos, Athos and Aramis. It appears these three are already friends.

How did the Three Musketeers meet and become friends?
The were already friends when they met d'Artagnan. They all had been musketeers in the king's guard for years, so they knew each other very well, had a lot of adventures together.
Reply:its just a fairytale
Reply:There were in a box together next to the register. When they found out they all contained the same creamy nougat, they knew they were going to be good friends.
Reply:In a Pub watching Arsenal/Barcelona.


Then they moved to have a talk with the referee.
Reply:Dumas put them together. But where are they born? How were their mothers? Small and beautiful? Or nasty and slim?
Reply:well you just need to read the book to know the answer
Reply:It's been a while since I've read it, but I think it was implied that they had all been musketeers together, and particularly good ones, for a long time. Of course, they met D'Artagnan when they each individually arranged a duel with him.
