How can I safely meet friends on the internet?

I am not looking for romance. I'm alone most of the time and would love to know some people just to chat with. I am in my late 40's.

How can I safely meet friends on the internet?
If you see somebody's answers that you like, and that you agree with, look at their profile, and read several of their answers to make sure, then e-mail them if they allow it, Allow people to e-mail you also. I have talked to several that way. It can be a lot of fun, getting to know them, and their customs, etc, Try it.....just don't divulge too much info.

Reply:No problem. Just never give out your full name, phone number or address. You could try corresponding with people who have email access on yahoo! answers and activate your own as well. I say talk for quite awhile to many people and then when you do get to know them better you can give out your personal email address.

Reply:YAHOO! Chat, dont' give out your personal information. Unfortunately you never know who people are on the internet anymore. I recommend finding a local social group of some sort ie Toastmasters, community church, dance groups or take some continuing education classes.

Reply:safetly meeting people on the internet doesnt actually exist. theres not a certain chat room you can go into that everyone isnt lying about their age or how they act. you have to be careful when doing so. meeting people online can be safe, if you're cautious. you never want to give out personal information or your whereabouts. just saying hi usually isnt a big deal. ive met some people on yahoo games and http://www.isketch.net [i think thats the web address]. if you do plan on meeting people, remember to be careful, but have fun :]

Reply:i'm sorry, but with how the world is now, you cant. i'm guessing you watch the News? then you know how many people are "stolen" and dont show up again.

Even if a website says like "totally safe" or something- you never know.





Some say that they have been checked by the police or something- but you could be chatting with someone PRETENDING it's your friend, and when you go out to meet, you endup with a complete stranger, man across from you.





It's scary
