Looking for a short story about two friends who meet later, one ends up becoming a cop...?

so yeah, i remember reading this in middle/high school, all i can remember is these 2 guys that were friends before, or they had met in a cafe and chatted then decided to meet up later at the same spot...or something like this...eventually we see one friend strolling the street who we learn has become a cop, and the other friend is a drunk (or maybe this isn't said but we later find out)...so the cop approaches the guy and recognizes it's his friend, but he's wanted for a crime or something...i'm not sure if they recognize each other or what, i forgot how it ends...i just remember something happening along these lines in a dark street...i think it's set in london...someone help me please

There is a story by OHenry called "After Twenty Years" that takes place in New York City, not London. Two old friends have an appointment to meet up twenty years from their last meeting. They are to meet at a restaurant which has now been closed for a few years. One friend is waiting and a cop came up to him, asked him some questions and left. Another cop shows up and says he is the old friend. He walks him toward the precinct and as he arrests him, he hands him a note from the first cop. It turns out the first cop was his old friend who recognized him as a wanted criminal. He couldn't arrest his friend so he sent another cop to take him in.
