What's a fag hag do to meet new friends?

I moved to St. Louis, Missouri, less than four months ago. And I don't know hardly anyone here, but I'm remembering some gay times (as it were) with my friends in San Francisco before I met My Steve. Steve liked to keep his distance from gays so as not to be hit on, since he was rather ideal "gay bait." But he committed suicide over a year ago, and it's time for me to re-assert my own style: Big Mama who wants friends to hang out with.





How do I break into the scene in St. Louis, or more specifically University City? I don't have a car, and don't even know how to drive, so I must plan my outings with care. No "just go hang out" will work unless it's on the Loop, since I can walk there. I don't feel like I can even identify the gay bars, let alone walk in and get a rousing chorus of "Hello, Dolly!"

Try some google searches for gay/lesbian clubs, GLBT organizations, where the "gay ghetto" is in St. Louis...that sort of thing.





Most major cities all have at least one area where the majority of gays/lesbians hang out. These are affectionately called "gay ghettos." (at least that's what we call them up in Chicago)





If you volunteer for a GLBT organization as a straight person, you can meet some really fantastic gays and lesbians as friends.
