I need some help! Where can I meet some new friends?

I know this sounds dumb, but here it goes. I'm a socially awkward person. I have very few friends. I got married a three years ago, and my old friends were no longer appropriate for my married life. (All they want to do is go to bars to meet men, and they aren't in a relationship, so we had so little in common anymore.)

Where do you meet people? I just want to make friends and most places to meet people are for people wanting to date. I'm self employed, so I don't have fellow employees to have a beer with after work. I don't want to go out on the town by myself. (My husband works nights) So I'm not sure how to go about this.

The other thing is that I am more comfortable around guys than I am with women. My best friend happens to be a man, he lives out of state right now, but is moving back in 2 months. Is it appropriate for a married woman to go out with a male friend? Even if she's known him since childhood? My husband says he has no problem with it now, but I'm worried.

Try signing up for activities that would interest you in your community; it may sound like something your parents might have suggested back in grade school, but it works. This way, you will not only meet friends, but friends who share your interests.

As for being "social awkward," just smiling and waving can help. Trust me, I am not exactly outgoing either. You could also try making friends through your husband. Being a male himself, he'll be sure to have some male friends with that you can friends with as well. (And no, I don't think it is at all inappropriate to be friends with a guy.) Good luck!
Reply:Since your self-employed you'll be able to allow for time during the day where your husband and you can join a bowling league and your male friend can sign up as well. This will make him a friend to both of you and also give you the opportunity to meet others - with the possibility of some new clients. I was amazed to learn that a lot of my friends are on a bowling league in the day time. Good Luck !
Reply:Join some clubs, groups like at the YMCA. I meet people at concerts/shows.
